Imagine Yourself in Italy on Valentine’s Day
Let Italy inspire your celebration this Year!
Do you wish you could whisk your lover off for a romantic holiday in Italy for Valentine’s Day?
Who doesn’t? What can you do if your budget will only stretch to dinner and a movie at home? Combine your imagination with a movie shot in Verona!
Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet, is a popular tourist destination in Italy, where tourists line up to visit Juliet’s House, Balcony, and Statue, and perhaps leave a love note or request.
If you are lucky enough to visit Verona in person, in addition to visiting Juliet’s home, stroll hand-in-hand through the Piazza delle Erbe and the Piazza dei Signori and across the picturesque stone bridge, Ponte Pietra. Visit the Roman Arena in Verona, the third largest in Italy, which houses their prestigious opera festival, and listen to romantic operas with your lover.
Or, bring Verona to you by writing a love letter to your valentine. Cook a romantic homemade dinner and talk of dreams you share, accompanied by a luscious wine from the Veneto Region: Soave (white), Valpolicella (red), Amarone (a dry, full-bodied, and complex red), or Prosecco (sparkling white).
After dinner, curl up together and watch a Verona-themed movie. There are several versions of Romeo and Juliet, based on William Shakespeare’s play by the same name. My personal favorite Verona-related movies are the 1968 Romeo and Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli and the 2010 Letters to Juliet, which is fun to watch for the scenery alone—much of the movie was filmed in Tuscany.
Afterwards, share your love letters to each other.
The rest of the evening? That’s up to you.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
